Kego Shrine

Kego Shrine is a shrine in Fukuoka City. It is a historic shrine where weddings are also held. Although it sits in the middle of a bustling downtown area, once you step inside, a sacred atmosphere flows, making it an urban oasis. It is famous for warding off misfortune. The shrine has a rare footbath that anyone can use. There is also sacred water that you can take home—bringing a bottle and adding it to a bath at home is recommended. Within the shrine grounds, Imaeki Inari Shrine features smiling fox statues; it is said that stroking their heads lets you take home good fortune. Foxes are also believed to enrich one’s life and business. Visiting Kego Shrine during sightseeing is recommended to enjoy both blessings and the unusual perk of a footbath. It is also known as a god of victory, so it’s a good place to visit before competitions or important challenges. Access is about a 20-minute bus ride from Hakata Station. Because it is in the Tenjin downtown area, many other sightseeing spots are nearby.
