Dazaifu Monzen Town
Dazaifu Monzenmachi refers to the approach streets leading to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It is a 400-meter-long approach area divided into the Omachi district and the Baba district: from the station, the Baba district is to the right, and the Omachi district is to the left. You can enjoy the approach while passing through torii gates. Shops are densely packed, and the foot traffic is heavy, creating an exciting “I’m in a tourist spot” atmosphere. It’s said that Dazaifu Tenmangu receives around 7 million visitors annually, and considering how many people pass through Dazaifu Monzenmachi on their way to the shrine, it’s natural that the area is lively. There are many stylish cafés, and choosing souvenirs can take time. It’s also fun to stroll while snacking on local Monzenmachi specialties such as monaka. And of course, don’t forget to draw an omikuji fortune at Dazaifu Tenmangu to test your luck—types of omikuji can change by season, so enjoy that too. Access is immediate from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station.
