Maizuru Park

Maizuru Park is a park in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, centered on the former honmaru (main enclosure) site of Fukuoka Castle. Located on the east side of Ohori Park, the two together are popular with tourists. The park has about 500 cherry trees, and it becomes lively with crowds during hanami season. Sports grounds are also available, and the Fukuoka International Marathon draws representative athletes from many countries every year. Beyond cherry blossoms, there are many plum trees, peonies, peonies (shakuyaku), azaleas, irises, lotus, and water lilies, allowing enjoyment through all seasons. Occasional light-ups make it possible to appreciate flowers at night as well. It’s a spot that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to adults, not only plant lovers. With ample space, it is a calming place and a beloved relaxation area for residents. Events are held regularly, so it’s recommended to check what’s on when you visit. The park also recruits flower-volunteer participants who plant flowers to delight visitors. Access is about a 5-minute walk from Ohori-Koen Station.
