Marine World Umi no Nakamichi
Marine World Uminonakamichi is an aquarium in Fukuoka City. Its official name is the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Marine Ecology Science Museum, but it is commonly called Marine World Uminonakamichi because it is located within Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. The shell-inspired building houses exhibits themed around the seas of Kyushu, showcasing the lives of about 350 species and 20,000 marine animals. In addition to fish, you can also see dolphins and spotted seals (gomafu-azarashi). The main feature is a large panoramic tank. Events and shows are held regularly, including unusual programs such as “birthday parties” for animals like sea otters—visitors can participate. Zones include areas such as Kyushu’s open ocean, Aso “Water Forest,” Kyushu jellyfish, Amami coral reefs, a sea-otter pool, and “Kaiju Island,” letting you see a wide variety of marine life. Feeding programs and backstage tours are also available, making it popular for families. Access is about a 5-minute walk from JR Uminonakamichi Station after getting off; since it is inside Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, you can enjoy a full day there.
