JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakata
JR Hakata City / Amu Plaza Hakata is a station building and large commercial complex at Hakata Station’s Hakata Exit (Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City). It is built around key facilities such as the fashion-oriented Amu Plaza Hakata and the department store Hakata Hankyu. It also includes Hankyu Department Store’s first store in Kyushu as well as Tokyu Hands. With an event hall, it functions as a cultural facility and plays an active role as a Kyushu landmark. The complex also contains a cinema, many restaurants, and even an FM studio, making it a well-known hub for broadcasting and trends in Hakata. The large cinema is especially suitable for “movie-hopping” (watching multiple films in one day). With so many dining options, it’s easy to choose what you like and spend the whole day here. On the rooftop, “Tsubame no Mori Hiroba” offers an open rooftop garden where a “Tsubame train” runs carrying children. From the green-filled plaza you can look out over the city of Hakata, and it is also lit up at night. Access is excellent: about a 3-minute walk from Subway Hakata Station, and about a 2-minute walk from JR Hakata Station.
