Lamp no Yado Aoni Onsen

Aoni Onsen Lamp no Yado is a secluded hot spring inn tucked along the Aoni Gorge, offering a true hidden-valley escape. There is no electricity in the guest rooms, and lighting comes only from oil lamps. With no outlets in the rooms, you cannot use smartphones or watch TV, making it easy to enjoy a natural digital detox. The inn first opened in 1929. Although it is located in a heavy-snow area, it has operated year-round since 2001. At Aoni Onsen, you can enjoy four baths: "Kenroku no Yu," built entirely of hiba wood; a mixed-gender open-air bath surrounded by rocks; an indoor bath renovated in 2014; and "Takimi no Yu," where you can soak while looking out at Ryuga Falls. The mixed-gender open-air bath also has women-only "ladies’ time," which is a good option for those who feel hesitant about mixed bathing. The spring water is a simple hot spring said to help with issues such as neuralgia and muscle pain. After bathing, enjoy rustic mountain cuisine featuring local wild vegetables and river fish. Relaxing and chatting with friends around the irori hearth can become a treasured travel memory.
