Towada Art Center

Towada Art Center is a museum dedicated to contemporary art, located along Kanchogai Street in the center of Towada City. With 38 permanent installations that can only be seen here, it offers a fresh experience no matter how many times you visit. Opened in 2008, the museum is complemented by an outdoor Art Square across the street, where you can enjoy artworks even without entering the museum. The Art Square features playful and colorful sculptures such as Yayoi Kusama’s "Love Forever Singing in Towada," adorned with mushroom- and pumpkin-like forms that are delightful to view even without fully understanding the concepts. Inside the museum, you will also find Ron Mueck’s powerful four-meter-tall sculpture "Standing Woman," sometimes nicknamed the "giant woman." Special exhibitions are held three times a year, making it worthwhile to plan your visit around them. Kanchogai Street is also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot, so visiting during the spring sakura season is highly recommended. You may also consider visiting during winter when events such as the Arts Towada Winter Illumination are held.
