Biwako Valley
Biwako Valley is a resort on a mountaintop about 1,100 meters above sea level with sweeping views of Lake Biwa, offering a wide range of activities throughout the year. From JR Shiga Station, transfer to a bus and get off at “Biwako Valley-mae,” where the ropeway entrance is nearby. Riding the ropeway while enjoying the scenery brings you to the summit and the Biwako Terrace, where breathtaking views await. You can also relax on sofas and have a meal at Terrace Cafe. From there, taking the Uchimii Lift leads to an activity area where you can experience ziplining, sledding, and more. In late December, the ski area opens, and you can even ski while looking out over Lake Biwa. If you transfer to the Horai Lift, you can reach the summit of Mt. Horai. From the arched wooden deck, you can see not only Lake Biwa but also as far as Kyoto and Osaka—and on clear days, even the Southern Alps.
