Tenjin Underground City

Tenjin Underground Mall is located in Tenjin, Fukuoka City, the largest downtown area in Kyushu. The mall is designed with a 19th-century European atmosphere and connects directly to the Fukuoka City Subway, making it highly convenient and drawing many visitors. It mainly targets women, with many sweets shops and other stores that appeal to female shoppers, and it is also a popular sightseeing spot. The mall spans about 600 meters and is divided into 12 zones (1st street to 12th street), with around 150 stores packed along the route—ranging from variety and aroma shops to fashion stores—so even window shopping is enjoyable. Around 400,000 people pass through daily. During illumination seasons, many people gather at night as well. Some stores offer duty-free services for international travelers, adding to its popularity among overseas visitors. Because it’s underground, it’s especially useful and busy on rainy or snowy days. Access is directly connected to Tenjin Station / Tenjin-minami area stations.
