Yobuko Ohashi Bridge
Yobuko Bridge is a beautiful bridge about 728 meters long, resembling a row of harp strings. It connects Yobuko (Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture) with Kabe Island, serving as important infrastructure for island residents. Across the bridge on Kabe Island, you’ll find attractions such as “Kaze no Mieru Oka Park” and the romantic “Tashima Shrine,” associated with the legend of Matsuura Sayohime—plus plenty of tasty local foods. Beneath the bridge is the roughly 220-meter “Benten Promenade,” which allows pedestrians to walk between Yobuko and Benten Island (a designated Saga Prefecture natural monument). From this seaside promenade, where the ocean is close and the sea breeze feels wonderful, the upward view of Yobuko Bridge is spectacular. There is also a sidewalk on one side of the bridge itself, but traffic is heavy, so take extra care if walking. Access: by car, about 60 minutes from Taku IC (Kyushu Expressway). By public transportation, get off at JR Karatsu Station, go to Oteguchi Bus Center, take a bus bound for Yobuko (~30 min) and get off at “Yobuko Bus Terminal,” or take a bus bound for Kabe Island and get off at “Yobuko Bridge” (~10 min).
