Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum

The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum is a museum that brings together materials related to the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945 (Showa 20). As a result of this atomic bombing, about 150,000 people lost their lives. By carefully viewing the Permanent Exhibition Room, Special Exhibition Room, Library, Children’s Library Corner, Video Corner, Peace Loft, Video Room, Museum Hall, Relaxation Plaza, and Peace Learning Room, you can learn about the events leading up to the bombing, the devastating realities of radiation exposure, the recovery of Nagasaki from reconstruction to the present, and the history of nuclear weapons development worldwide, prompting deep reflection on what peace truly means. Audio guides are available for an additional fee beyond admission. They are offered in Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese (Portugal/Brazil), Dutch, German, French, Russian, and Arabic, so it is a spot you should visit with an audio guide and take your time exploring. Access to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum by car is via the Nagasaki Expressway: exit at “Nagasaki Tarami IC,” continue via the Nagasaki Bypass, exit at “Kawahira IC (Peace Park / Showa-machi area),” then drive about 5 minutes toward the city center. By public transportation, take the tram bound for “Akapoko” from JR Nagasaki Station, get off at “Atomic Bomb Museum” stop, then walk about 5 minutes. The “Nagasaki Sightseeing Route Bus” operated by Nagasaki Bus is also very convenient for tourism, as it circulates major city attractions such as Glover Garden, Oura Cathedral, Oranda-zaka, Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, Dejima, Peace Park, and the Atomic Bomb Museum.
