Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art

The Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art is an art museum in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It has nine exhibition rooms plus a tenth room: a branch of the Maeda Ikutokukai Sonkeikaku Library. The collection includes a National Treasure, the “Colored Enamel Pheasant Incense Burner” by Ninsei, and Important Cultural Properties such as “West Lake” (ink painting on paper), “Four Seasons of Farming” (colored painting on paper) by Kusumi Morikage (six-panel screen), “Wakaura Maki-e Table Stand,” “Colored Enamel Plum Blossom Design Flat Water Jar” by Ninsei, “Colored Enamel Hen Incense Burner” by Ninsei, and Noh costume “Green Ground Paulownia & Phoenix Pattern Karaori.” There is also a donated National Treasure sword, “Ken, inscription Yoshimitsu” (a Japanese sword said to have been made in the Kamakura period). In the entrance hall there is a shop selling Ishikawa traditional crafts and reproductions, and a large glass-walled café “Le Musée de H KANAZAWA” produced by Ishikawa-born pâtissier Hironobu Tsujiguchi. The museum also hosts lectures and children’s events, and it’s a popular attraction for visitors from Ishikawa and around the world. Access: about 15 minutes by bus from Kanazawa Station East Exit; get off at “Kenritsu Bijutsukan / Seisonkaku,” then about a 2-minute walk.
