Hyogo Prefectural Kunimi-no-Mori Park

Hyogo Prefectural Kunimi no Mori Park is a forest park in Shiso City, Hyogo Prefecture, famous for its mini monorail that connects the foothill area with the mountaintop area. It was developed by Hyogo Prefecture as a “CSR (Culture, Sports, Recreation) facility” to promote residents’ cultural, sports, and recreational activities. Access is via JR Kishin Line Harima-Shingu Station, then take Shinki Bus, get off at the “Jōshita” bus stop, and walk about 25 minutes. The mini monorail, designed as a forest learning track, is substantial: about 1,100 meters in total length with an elevation difference of roughly 300 meters. While enjoying the park’s seasonal scenery, you can take an approximately 18-minute ride full of excitement and thrills. Reservations are required in advance (same-day booking may be possible if seats are available). From the wooden two-story observation deck at the summit, you can see layered mountain vistas as well as Shiso’s urban area and the flow of the Ibo River. The park also offers many events and programs—such as making bamboo charcoal, tea picking, catching river fish by hand, and sweet potato digging—making it an especially appealing destination for families.
