Fall of Shiraito
Shiraito Falls is a famous waterfall in Fujinomiya City designated as both a National Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument. From a curved cliff about 20 meters high and 150 meters wide, hundreds of waterfalls cascade down, creating a remarkably beautiful scene celebrated as one of Japan’s great waterfalls. Most of the flowing water comes from Mt. Fuji’s spring water, giving the falls a gentle, graceful feel that lets you appreciate Fuji’s natural blessings. There are two main viewing areas: one near the top that is accessible by wheelchair before the stairs, and another where you can see Mt. Fuji behind the falls. If you go down the long staircase to the basin, you can enjoy the negative ions up close. Next to Shiraito Falls is also Otodome Falls, known from the Soga Brothers legend, offering a more powerful contrast. Access: about 30 minutes by bus from JR Fujinomiya Station; by car, it’s a bit over 30 minutes from Tomei Fuji IC or Shin-Tomei Fuji IC; about 1 hour from Chuo Expressway Kawaguchiko IC. The area has parking and shops for light meals. It was also registered in 2013 as a component asset of the Mt. Fuji World Heritage site.
