Otaru Music Box Museum Main Building

Otaru Music Box Museum Main Building (Otaru Orgel Doh) is a music box museum in Otaru City. Inside a nostalgic building constructed in 1912, visitors can learn about the history of music boxes in a dreamy atmosphere. Music boxes are also sold here, and the scale is among the largest in Japan. In addition to the main building, there is a separate Building No. 2, which functions as an antique museum. Its steam clock plays a chime and performs a five-note melody every 15 minutes. There is also a pipe organ, with performances held for about 20 minutes every hour. Music boxes—cute, delicate, and precise—often captivate visitors instantly, and many people find their mood lift as soon as they see the displays. The intricate mechanisms also appeal to many men, making it enjoyable for a wide range of visitors. It’s an excellent choice for both personal souvenirs and gifts. Access is about a 7-minute walk from Minami-Otaru Station on the JR Hakodate Main Line.
