Biwako Otsu-kan
Biwako Otsu-kan is a cultural facility in Yanagasaki Lakeside Park facing Lake Biwa, featuring a multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms, and a restaurant. Originally built in 1934 as the former Biwako Hotel Main Building, it was the first tourist hotel in Shiga Prefecture, created to attract international visitors. In its time, it served as the Lake Country’s guesthouse, welcoming members of the imperial family and many prominent figures. Notable names associated with the hotel include Helen Keller and Yasunari Kawabata, reflecting its prestigious history. Today, it is gaining attention as an easy, relaxing spot to connect with nature, featuring a romantic restaurant where you can dine with views of Lake Biwa and an English Garden spanning approximately 5,900 square meters. On fine days, you can unwind at open-terrace seating. Weddings can also be held within the English Garden. The nearest stations are JR Otsu Station or Otsukyo Station, and it is about 10 minutes by bus from Otsu Station. By car, it is about 15 minutes from Otsu IC on the Meishin Expressway.
