The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, Saitama

The Saitama City Omiya Bonsai Art Museum is the world’s first public museum dedicated exclusively to bonsai, located in Saitama City. Long known as a city of bonsai, Omiya established this museum in 2010 to share the beauty and culture of bonsai with the world. The Collection Gallery displays indoor bonsai, bonsai pots, suiseki stones, paintings, and historical and folk materials. The Bonsai Garden exhibits around 60 bonsai at all times, and visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the garden from the second floor. Explanations of exhibits are available through group guides and English-guided tours, which require advance reservation. Audio guides in four languages are also available for a fee. The museum shop sells original items such as masking tape, bags, and traditional tenugui towels, which are especially popular with younger visitors. Mail-order sales via registered cash mail are also offered. The Saitama City Omiya Bonsai Art Museum is a 5-minute walk from the east exit of Toro Station on the JR Utsunomiya Line. Be sure to experience the profound charm of bonsai culture here.
