Market main street
Ichiba Hondori is a shopping street in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. It branches off from Kokusai-dori and is busy with tourists every day. Because it leads to the public market and has many sweets shops and mochi shops, it’s sometimes called “Okashi-dori” (Sweets Street). Many locals also come, giving it a lively atmosphere. You can buy cut sugarcane or pineapple and enjoy tropical fruit while walking—great for street eating. You’ll also find shops selling sata andagi, making it a food-walk-friendly street. Known as part of Okinawa’s “kitchen,” you can also see unusual items like tropical fish. Ryukyu glass is sold as well, making it a hidden spot for souvenirs. Tsuboya Yachimun Street is also nearby; for buying pottery, Tsuboya is the better choice. With chances to enjoy Okinawan food and eat Okinawa soba, it’s an especially recommended sightseeing spot that, in a way, condenses everyday Okinawan life. Access is about a 10-minute drive from Naha Airport.
