Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum

Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum is a prefectural cultural facility in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. It’s affectionately known as “OkiMu (Okimyu),” which is also the nickname of the facility’s mascot character. As a combined museum-and-art-museum complex, it has many exhibits and highlights and is popular with tourists. There is a hands-on experience room for children where they can touch and learn about Okinawan culture. You’ll find unique displays such as models explaining natural systems, sanshin (Okinawan instrument), and miniatures demonstrating gusuku stone walling techniques. On Saturdays, workshops are held and many children gather. There is also a stylish café inside, making it possible to spend an entire day there. The exterior is a modern gray building with 4 floors above ground and 1 basement level, standing out prominently in Okinawa. It’s a great option to consider for sightseeing on rainy days. Access is about a 10-minute walk from Yui Rail Omoromachi Station.
