Japan Louvre Sculpture Museum
The Louvre Sculpture Museum is the world’s only sister museum of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. Its approximately 1,300 works are reproductions created by technical staff from the Louvre Museum Department in Paris. Because the pieces are molded directly from the originals, they match the originals not only in size but even down to individual scratches—an outstanding feature. All of these works have been transported from Paris to Japan, making it feel as if a sculpture gallery of the Louvre has been relocated here. The museum also exhibits many reproductions from other world-famous museums, including the British Museum in the UK and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the USA. Despite being a sister museum of the Louvre, it stands within the grounds of the Shingon Buddhist temple "Hoju-san Daikannonji," and because Daikannonji also operates and manages the museum, it is striking to see Buddhist statues displayed alongside Western sculptures. You can enjoy a unique fusion of Western sculpture and Buddhist sculpture in one visit. Another plus is the excellent access: it is only a five-minute walk from "Sakakibara Onsen-guchi Station" on the Kintetsu Osaka Line.
