Osawa Onsen Tojiya

Osawa Onsen Self-Catering Wing is formally called "Tojiya" and is a lodging facility designed for therapeutic stays. The self-catering wing welcomes guests in a building about 200 years old, and as its name suggests, it is a rare place where you can cook for yourself in a shared kitchen. You can bring your own ingredients to cook, or simply dine at the on-site eatery—so you can enjoy meals even without preparing anything. Unusually, the shop also sells seasonings. The hot springs are the main attraction, with three options: the mixed-gender open-air bath "Osawa no Yu," the women-only open-air bath "Kawabe no Yu," and the gender-separated indoor bath "Yakushi no Yu"—so you can enjoy different bathing styles. It is also known that Kenji Miyazawa loved these baths. Day-use bathing is also available, and the open-air baths offer seasonal scenery throughout the year. Nearby attractions include nature spots such as "Oozora Waterfall" (about 20 minutes by car) and "Tase Lake" (about 45 minutes by car). Given its connection to Miyazawa Kenji, it is also about 25 minutes by car to the Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum. The tourist destination Hiraizumi is about 50 minutes away by car, so you can also enjoy broader sightseeing.
