Yunotsu Onsen
Yunotsu Onsen is a hot spring in Oda City, Shimane Prefecture. Yunotsu prospered as a port town serving as the shipping port for Iwami Ginzan silver, and its streetscape has remained as a nostalgic, well-preserved town beloved by locals and travelers. It is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, keeping its retro atmosphere intact. There are two public bathhouses: “Motoyu Yakuyaku-yu” and “Yakushi-yu,” with Yakushi-yu recognized as top-rated natural hot spring water. With about 1,300 years of history, it’s a great place to soothe travel fatigue. After enjoying natural hot spring water with no added modifications, relax at a retro café and enjoy local food. You can also stay for “inaka tourism” (one group per day), allowing a slower, deeper experience. Nearby are spots like the Yunotsu Pottery Museum and Ebisu Shrine, making it enjoyable for sightseeing too. Access: from Yunotsu Station, take a bus about 5 minutes. Even the short walk provides plenty to see, so it’s recommended.
