Kamosu Shrine
Kamimunebi (Kamon) Shrine is a shrine in Matsue City. Its main hall is said to be Japan’s oldest Taisha-zukuri style and is a National Treasure. It enshrines Izanami-no-Mikoto and Izanagi-no-Mikoto, and is associated with blessings such as matchmaking, fertility, and safe childbirth. It is described as a power spot with a mysterious atmosphere and distinctive aura. A notable point is that if you can receive a goshuin at the shrine office—rarely open—it is considered a “phantom charm,” meaning you had the “connection” (en) to obtain it, making it especially rare. Sacred treasures connected to myth are also kept here. Many visitors come seeking a “new self,” especially those searching for direction in life. The main hall, temizuya, stairs, and other structures offer a strong sense of history. It is also known as a deity of fire. A “Haniwa Road” connecting Kamimunebi Shrine and Yaegaki Shrine has been developed, and walking it as a combined route is also recommended. Access: from Matsue Station, take the Matsue City bus, get off at “Kanbe no Sato,” then walk about 5 minutes.
