RIKYU Sendai Station
Rikyu Gyutan Sumiyaki (Sendai Station Branch) is a beef tongue specialty restaurant located on the 3rd floor of Sendai Station in “Gyutan Street.” You can enjoy Sendai’s signature gyutan year-round. Rikyu operates many locations centered in Sendai and across Japan. Skilled craftsmen prepare each piece by hand with a knife, season it with hand-sprinkled salt, then age it before serving. Thanks to this careful process maintained since founding, the gyutan is thick yet tender and packed with flavor. The classic “Gyutan Teishoku” includes barley rice, tail soup, nanban miso, and pickles. The clean, refreshing tail soup, fiber-rich barley rice, and seasonal pickles pair perfectly with the gyutan. The “Tan-toro Teishoku” with grated yam is also popular. Beyond set meals, you can try gyutan curry, stew, hamburger steak, and other beef-tongue dishes. The shop is about 1 minute from the Shinkansen ticket gates, making it an easy stop while waiting for transfers. The “Gyutan Street” area also features panels about Date Masamune and gyutan, helping you feel Sendai’s local culture.
