Food stalls Yasubei
Yatai Yasubei is a street food stall in Kochi City. Its specialty is grilled gyoza—so famous that when people say “Kochi yatai gyoza,” many immediately think of Yasubei. By day, the riverside spot is empty, but at night the stall is assembled along the river: tables and chairs appear, and it quickly transforms into a full-fledged yatai covered in blue sheets. The bite-sized gyoza are fried-grilled at high temperature, making them crispy. The filling is lighter than typical meat-heavy gyoza, with more vegetables (like garlic chives and ginger), giving an addictive, thin-and-light texture. Its popularity shows no sign of slowing: it has opened a shop in Hirome Market and even expanded to Tokyo. The culture of “finishing a night of drinks with yatai gyoza” has grown along with it. In addition to gyoza, ramen and oden are also popular, and combinations like char siu rice or katsuo rice with gyoza are also loved. There is always a line, but it has become one of the Kochi specialties worth waiting for. Access is a 4-minute walk from the Tosaden “Kochibashi” stop.
