Soba restaurant Higashiya

Soba-dokoro Azumaya (Main Branch) is a long-established soba restaurant founded in 1907 (Meiji 40) and is one of Morioka’s most iconic eateries. It is located in the Nakanohashi-dori shopping street, where you can feel the history of the castle town of Morioka. From its exterior alone, you can sense the dignity and presence of a classic old establishment. It is widely known as a top spot for Morioka’s famous wanko soba, where servers keep adding small portions of soba to your bowls while calling out "Hai, janjan. Hai, dondon." Those who eat 100 bowls or more receive an original Azumaya "Wanko Soba Certificate." Beyond wanko soba, the "Nanbu Soba Kaiseki" course is also popular—traditional Iwate soba dishes arranged as a full course meal, showcasing local ingredients and skills built over more than a century. The restaurant is also known for highly rated rice bowls such as tamago-don (egg bowl) and ebi-katsu-don (shrimp cutlet bowl). It’s a place you may want to visit more than once to try different dishes.
