Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum
Miyazawa Kenji Memorial Museum is located about 20 minutes by bus from JR "Hanamaki Station," followed by about a 15-minute walk from the "Miyazawa Kenji Kinenkan-guchi" stop. This is a destination where you can explore not only the works of Kenji Miyazawa—one of Japan’s most celebrated writers—but also his philosophy, worldview, and remarkably wide-ranging talents. In the wooded area leading up to the building, you’ll find a garden plaza called "Poran Square." Here, two designs Kenji himself planned but could not realize at the time due to cost and technical constraints—the "South-Slope Flowerbed" and the "Sundial Flowerbed"—have been recreated. Inside the museum, exhibits are organized around five themes: science, art, the universe, agriculture, and religion. Along with screen presentations, you can view Kenji’s personal items and manuscripts, design drawings for parks, and materials related to his research on stones—offering a deeper, more immersive look into his creative mind. In the museum parking area, there is also a restaurant named "Yamaneko-ken," inspired by Kenji’s famous story "The Restaurant of Many Orders." Its playful menu items, such as "Yamaneko Zosui," draw many visitors, making it a lively stop on a Hanamaki literary sightseeing route.
