Omimachi Market
Omicho Market is a market located in the center of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Known as the “kitchen of Kaga Hyakumangoku,” it was named Omicho Market because it was founded by Omi merchants. With about 170 shops across roughly 2.8 hectares, it has long served as Kanazawa citizens’ pantry. It offers local specialties such as Kaga vegetables and seafood, and is popular not only with residents but also with tourists. In recent years, the “Omicho Ichiba-kan” was built through urban redevelopment; it houses 73 stores including light-meal shops. The 5th floor contains the Kanazawa Omicho Consumer Life Center, the Employment Stabilization Center for Care Work, and spaces that serve as a place of relaxation for citizens. To make it fun for children, the market hosts programs such as Omicho hands-on experiences, Omicho explorations, and Omicho cooking classes (for elementary students). For adults, there are also “Omicho Fureai” cooking classes using the latest system kitchens. Access: from Kanazawa Station, about 10 minutes by bus; from Musashi-ga-tsuji / Omicho Market stop, it’s about a 1-minute walk.
