Ningle Terrace
Ningle Terrace is a craft shopping area in Furano, produced by writer and creator So Kuramoto. Small handmade goods are sold in tiny cabin-like shops. Everything is handmade rather than mass-produced, so each item has subtle differences—making it possible to find a one-of-a-kind treasure. Along a wooden walkway in the forest, 15 lodges are scattered, each displaying carefully crafted items. At night, the area is illuminated, transforming the forest into an even more fantastical scene; visiting Ningle Terrace alone can feel worthwhile. The word "Ningle" comes from Ainu lore, referring to small forest-dwelling fairies, and stepping into the space may make you feel like you’ve entered that world. In summer you can enjoy lush greenery, and in winter the snowy scenery is equally charming. A particularly recommended stop is the "Glass House," featuring glass artworks—each with its own unique expression—so try finding your favorite. Workshops are also available, allowing you to make crafts yourself. Access is about a 10-minute taxi ride from Furano Station on the JR Nemuro Main Line.
