Mt. Moiwa

Mount Moiwa is a 531-meter mountain located about 5 km from central Sapporo. It has an observation deck at the summit, and in winter it becomes a ski area, making it a beloved sightseeing and leisure spot for Sapporo residents. You can reach the mountain by driving up the access road or by taking the ropeway, and it is especially famous as a night-view destination. From the top, you can look out over the Ishikari Plain, and at night it is known as a romantic destination for couples. A popular photo spot is the "Bell of Happiness." There is also a legend that if you attach a "love lock" with your names written on it to the railing around the bell, you will never break up. The ropeway has a mid-mountain station and a summit station; from the mid-mountain station you can choose to take a mini cable car or walk up a path. Souvenirs are sold at the mid-mountain station, so buying on the way down helps keep your luggage lighter while you are at the top. At the summit, there is an observation deck and a restaurant where you can enjoy meals while taking in the grand scenery. The views differ between summer and winter, and both seasons have their own charm. To access Mount Moiwa, take the streetcar to "Ropeway Iriguchi" and use the free shuttle bus that departs from there.
