Fukuoka City Museum
Fukuoka City Museum is a municipal museum in Fukuoka City, located in the Seaside Momochi area. It sits among major landmarks such as the Fukuoka City Public Library, Fukuoka Tower, and Fukuoka PayPay Dome. The permanent exhibits focus on artifacts and sites from within Fukuoka, including the famous gold seal “Kan no Wa no Na no Koku-ō In” (King of Na of Wa in Han), one of Japan’s three great spears “Nihongo,” the gold seal itself, the Itazuke site, and Korokan, among others. The museum also preserves and maintains an operational example of Japan’s oldest domestically produced automobile, the Arrow-go. For children, there is a “Mitaiken Lab” where they can experience instruments, clothing, and games from various parts of Asia—taking photos while actually wearing items is also OK. In the museum shop, you can buy Fukuoka City Museum-exclusive gold-seal replicas. Because it’s enjoyable for both kids and adults and surrounded by other sightseeing spots, it’s a great place to visit as part of a broader itinerary. There is a café inside, but on a nice day it’s also recommended to eat on the lawn. From Fukuoka Tower, you can even spot the museum. Access is about a 10-minute walk from Nishijin Station.
