竹島

Takeshima is a small island in Mikawa Bay in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture. The island is rich in nature, and the entire island is designated as a National Natural Monument. You can reach Takeshima on foot via the Takeshima Bridge, and walking across a bridge over the sea is a memorable experience in itself. At night, the bridge is illuminated, creating a romantic atmosphere together with the island. Takeshima is compact—about 680 meters around—and even a full loop takes only about 30 minutes. On the island you will find Yaotomi Shrine, and the sight of a torii gate standing on the bridge is a rare and iconic scene. Once you cross the bridge and pass through the torii, you are already within the shrine precincts—essentially, the entire island functions as a shrine. Takeshima is famous as a power spot and is also well known as an island for matchmaking and good relationships. It is said that the omikuji fortunes here do not include "great curse," but instead feature the unusual "super great blessing." Because the sunrise is especially beautiful, many people visit on the morning of New Year’s Day. On the mainland side opposite Takeshima, you can also visit nearby attractions such as Takeshima Aquarium, Takeshima Fantasy Museum, and the Museum of the Earth, Sea and Life. Access to Takeshima is about a 15-minute walk from JR/Meitetsu Gamagori Station.
