Tsuchiyama Service Area

Tsuchiyama Service Area is a consolidated upbound and downbound service area located on the Shin-Meishin Expressway, accessible not only from the highway but also from local roads. Marking its 10th anniversary in 2018, the facility underwent exterior renovations and remains clean and modern. In addition to a souvenir shop and food court, the service area features a variety of specialty stores offering products from Shiga Prefecture, the local Koka area, as well as popular souvenirs from the Kansai, Nagoya, and surrounding regions. The mascot character "Tsuchiyama Tanuki" is inspired by Koka ninja culture and Shigaraki pottery raccoon dogs. Dressed as a ninja with a leaf on its head, the character warmly welcomes and bids farewell to visitors at the entrances. The on-site lively plaza regularly hosts product fairs and local events. Shops, food courts, convenience stores, and the gas station operate 24 hours a day, and the facility is equipped with baby care areas, pet toilets, and drinking fountains, making it a convenient stop for travelers.
