Okinawa Peace Memorial Park
Okinawa Peace Memorial Park is a prefectural park in the Mabuni area of Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture, within the Okinawa Battle Sites Quasi-National Park. The surrounding area is called Mabuni Hill. Known as the site marking the end of the Battle of Okinawa, it sits on a plateau with views of rolling hills and coastline. Within the park is the Peace Memorial Museum with photographs and personal effects on display. There is also the Cornerstone of Peace, engraved with the names of those who died in the battle. The park includes the Okinawa Peace Memorial Hall, the Peace Memorial Statue, and around 50 group memorial towers. It is a place that memorial groups and school trips almost always visit, and it draws not only domestic but also international visitors. At the same time, it has lawn areas and serves as a relaxing space for Okinawa residents. It is a sacred site where many feelings about war converge. The views from here are also known as a scenic spot in Okinawa; take time to reflect on the history alongside the landscape. Access is about 85 minutes by bus from Naha Bus Terminal.
