Ise Grand Shrine Geku
Ise Jingu is the leading shrine of Mie Prefecture, located in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It is also known for the Edo-period boom of Okage Mairi, when people traveled from all over Japan to worship here. Affectionately called "Oise-san" or "Daijingu-san," its official name is simply "Jingu." Access is excellent: the Outer Shrine (Geku) is a five-minute walk from Kintetsu/JR Ise-shi Station and an eight-minute walk from Kintetsu Ujiyamada Station, both within 10 minutes. The shrine complex includes the Inner Shrine (Naiku / Kotai Jingu) and the Outer Shrine (Geku / Toyouke Daijingu), as well as 14 branch shrines (betsugu), 43 auxiliary shrines (sessha), 24 subordinate shrines (massha), and 42 administratively managed shrines (shokansha). Among them, Toyouke Daijingu of the Outer Shrine is a central presence within Ise Jingu, enshrining Toyouke Omikami, the guardian deity of food, clothing, shelter, and industry. At the Outer Shrine, prayers are offered, allowing worshippers to present wishes such as household safety, business prosperity, academic success, and protection from misfortune. A wide variety of amulets are also available, making them a recommended souvenir for loved ones.
