Yamafuji Ramen
Yamafuji is a chuka-soba (ramen) shop with outstanding access—about a 3-minute walk from Okayama Station. It’s open from around lunchtime until 2:00 a.m., making it popular for lunch, dinner, and as a post-drinking “closing ramen.” The signature item is the “negi soba,” with an eye-popping amount of scallions piled on top—irresistible for condiment lovers. The soup is a tonkotsu shoyu style typical of Okayama ramen, rich and well-regarded—so good that many people can finish the soup. Other popular options include tempura chuka, tsukimi (egg), wakame, bean sprouts, and even inari sushi—so many that repeat customers try to conquer the entire menu. It’s so popular that lines are common, but it’s said to be worth waiting for. Since it’s right by the station, public transit access is recommended. If coming by car, check nearby station-area parking in advance. Also note: electronic money and credit cards cannot be used, so bring cash.
