Yossou

Yossō (Yoshimune) is a steamed sushi specialty restaurant founded in 1866. “Mushi-zushi” here is served together with chawanmushi-style savory egg custard, and at Yoshimune it is prepared with carefully selected ingredients and the techniques of a long-established shop. Its simple, comforting taste has been loved for more than 150 years and continues to be cherished today. The building itself was constructed in 1927, and while it has undergone renovations, it still retains the atmosphere of the original Yoshimune. The chawanmushi flavor passed down since the founding can still be enjoyed now. Yoshimune also serves Nagasaki’s local banquet cuisine known as “Shippoku ryori.” Shippoku is a uniquely Nagasaki food culture—banquet-style dishes influenced by Chinese and Western cuisine that have been adapted in Japan. This style is enjoyed around a round table while sharing courses served on large platters, giving it a distinctly Chinese feel. It is one of the local gourmet experiences you should enjoy in Nagasaki. A recommended choice at Yoshimune is the menu that pairs mini Shippoku cuisine with chawanmushi. Access to Yoshimune by public transportation is from JR Nagasaki Station: take Tram Line 1 for about 12 minutes to “Kanko-dori,” enter the arcade, then walk about 3 minutes. By car, it is about 5 minutes from JR Nagasaki Station.
