Gozaisho Ropeway

The Gozaisho Ropeway stretches 2,161 meters, connecting Yunoyama Onsen at around 400 meters above sea level with Mount Gozaisho. In about 15 minutes, it climbs to an elevation of roughly 1,000 meters. From the gondola, you can enjoy a variety of scenery throughout the year, from fresh green leaves in spring to Mount Gozaisho painted in autumn colors. In winter, you may also see juhyo (frost-covered trees), natural ice formations created by the elements. Along the way, Jizo Rock, located around the mid-slope of Mount Gozaisho, is a popular spot for exam-success prayers because, despite its precarious shape, it is said to never fall. Another highlight is the giant white steel tower known as "Pillar No. 6," said to be the largest of its kind in Japan and visible even from the Chita Peninsula. At the top, there are five viewing terraces and observation points, and on a clear day you may even be able to see Mount Fuji. At the panoramic restaurant, you can also dine while looking out over Ise Bay. The nearest station is Kintetsu Yunoyama-Onsen Station; transfer to a bus and get off at "Yunoyama Onsen / Gozaisho Ropeway Mae," which is right nearby.
