Sankeien
Sankeien is a 175,000㎡ garden created by industrialist Hara Sankei. One of its defining features is the large number of historically valuable buildings within its vast grounds: you can see 17 structures, including 12 designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. These buildings were relocated from places such as Kamakura within Kanagawa, and as far as Kyoto and Wakayama, and are arranged to harmonize with the garden’s terrain and landscape design. Not only the architecture but also the seasonal nature is beautiful, making it enjoyable no matter when you visit. Although the grounds are large, if you efficiently tour a well-planned course, the visit typically takes about 90 to 120 minutes. There are also several dining spots inside the garden, including “Sankeien Saryo,” where you can take a break with dumplings and sweets, and “Karigane Chaya,” where you can enjoy more substantial meals such as Sankeien ramen and tempura soba. Access: get off at the city bus lines 8 or 148 “Sankeien Iriguchi,” then walk 5 minutes; or take the Burari Sankeien Bus and get off at “Sankeien” (right nearby).
