Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Museum

The Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Museum is a museum that clearly introduces the life and achievements of Hideyo Noguchi, the renowned scientist featured on the Japanese 1,000-yen bill. Through numerous exhibits and materials, visitors can learn about the life and accomplishments of this world-famous medical researcher. Despite losing the use of his left hand due to a childhood burn, Noguchi made significant global contributions through his research on diseases such as yellow fever. His preserved birthplace remains as it was in his youth, including the pillar where he carved his vow, "If I do not achieve my ambition, I will never return to this place," before leaving for Tokyo to pursue medicine. Inside the museum, a lifelike Hideyo Noguchi robot answers visitors’ questions, adding an interactive element. There are also hands-on experience corners with quizzes about bacteria he studied, exhibits designed for children, and a section depicting a day in his research life through American-style comics. The museum shop offers biographical manga, stamps, telephone cards, and reproductions of Noguchi’s handwritten works and paintings.
