Sansuien
Sansuien is a long-established hot spring ryokan in Kochi City. It is the only place along the Kagami River where you can enjoy natural hot spring water. The open-air bath and large public bath are also available for day-use bathing, letting you relax in spacious baths and soothe travel fatigue. After bathing, there is a yuzu tea service. Meals include sawachi cuisine and other hearty Tosa dishes, which you can enjoy with Kochi local sake. Breakfast features fresh vegetables sourced from contracted farmers and traditional Tosa home-style dishes. Guest rooms include both Japanese- and Western-style options, and they overlook Sansuien’s Japanese garden. The lobby has a high-end design with a distinctive semicircular window, and you can also view the garden from there. The ryokan is conveniently located near Kochi Castle and Hirome Market, making it a great base for sightseeing. It also hosts weddings, and depending on timing you might see a bride. Access: from JR Kochi Station, transfer at Harimaya Bridge stop to the streetcar, get off at “Kencho-mae” stop, then walk 3 minutes.
