Chiran Peace Museum
Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots is a history museum in Minamikyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It exhibits materials related to Japan’s Army Air Corps special attack (kamikaze) operations. The museum is located within Chiran Peace Park. Chiran was originally a former army special attack base and a departure point. The museum displays precious items such as portraits, personal belongings, and records of the Army Special Attack Corps members who became kamikaze pilots under dire circumstances. It is a place to reflect on life, death, and peace. In addition to a touch-panel explanation system and audio guides, you can also reserve a local storyteller guide who explains letters and wills in an easy-to-understand way. Within the park, there are displays such as a Zero fighter replica and stone monuments that you can view together with the museum. Known as a place many want to visit at least once, the museum is filled with countless individual stories. Access: about 75 minutes by bus from Kagoshima-Chuo Station.
