Shimizu Fish Market Kashi no Ichi

Shimizu Fish Market “Kashi no Ichi” is Shimizu’s kitchen, located adjacent to Shimizu Port in Shizuoka City. It was Japan’s first facility where intermediate wholesalers at a fish market directly sell seafood so people can enjoy fresh, delicious fish more casually. With professional-quality seafood and marine products available at low prices, it’s a popular spot that attracts over 1 million visitors annually. The market is divided into two main sections: “Ichiba-kan,” which sells fresh seafood, vegetables, and more, and “Maguro-kan,” which is lined with eateries serving freshly caught seafood menus centered on tuna. Shimizu Port ranks No.1 in Japan for tuna landings, and it’s said that about half of the tuna consumed in Japan is landed at Shimizu Port. Reflecting that, you’ll find hearty “mountain” tuna bowls and dishes using rare tuna cuts unique to the port. After shopping, you can also ship your purchases via courier service from the office inside the facility—so you can buy market-only souvenirs without holding back. Access: about a 4-minute walk from JR “Shimizu” Station. By car, it’s about 10 minutes from Tomei Expressway Shimizu IC, and there is a large parking lot.
