Cape Zanpa / Cape Zanpa Park
Zanpa Cape / Zanpa Cape Park is a cape in Yomitan Village, Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, and is part of the Okinawa Kaigan Quasi-National Park. Located at the westernmost point of Okinawa’s main island, it’s a popular sightseeing spot for its spectacular sunsets. A large white lighthouse serves as the landmark, and you can climb up it. On clear days, you may even be able to see Tonaki Island and Kume Island. The cape features sheer cliffs, and some areas have no handrails, so be careful—these cliffs extend for about 2 km. Nearby, Zanpa Ikoi no Hiroba has large playground equipment and offers BBQ and sports. You can also take a glass-bottom boat ride to see the sea below, and there are areas for swimming. A well-maintained walkway leads to Zanpa Cape Lighthouse, so you can enjoy the scenery as you approach. There’s also the Zanpa Giant Shisa, said to be Japan’s largest; at 8.75 m tall, it’s an impressive sight. Access: take a bus from Naha Bus Terminal to Yomitan Bus Terminal, then walk about 25 minutes.
