Aobayama Park

Aobayama Park is a park surrounded by Mt. Aoba (including the Sendai Castle ruins) and the Hirose River. As a symbol of the City of Trees, it’s loved by locals and visitors as a place to experience both rich nature and history from the feudal era. Around Naganuma and Goshikinuma—once castle moats—you can see trees like cherry blossoms and many water birds, creating a calming atmosphere. At the Honmaru site, an equestrian statue of Date Masamune was built to mark 300 years after his death and has become a park symbol. From the Honmaru site you can see a sweeping view of central Sendai, and it’s also a popular night view spot. Nearby stands a bronze statue of Doi Bansui; from 9:00 to 18:00, an automatic performance of “Kojo no Tsuki” plays every 30 minutes. The park also includes facilities such as Sendai International Center and the Sendai City Museum, making it a highlight-rich area. Access: about a 15-minute walk south from Sendai Subway Tozai Line “Kokusai Center Station.” From JR “Sendai Station,” you can take the Loople Sendai sightseeing bus and reach the “Sendai Castle Ruins” stop in about 22 minutes.
