Mie Prefectural Museum
The Mie Prefectural Museum (MieMu) is a public museum located in front of the Mie Prefectural Culture Center. It originally opened as the Mie Prefectural Museum, but due to seismic standards, it was newly built in 2014 and reopened as the Mie Prefectural Museum. Its popular nickname is "MieMu." The nearest major station is Tsu Station, and from there you can take a bus to the Culture Center area in about five minutes. However, because the bus runs only once per hour, going by car is more convenient. By car, it takes about 15 minutes from Geino IC on the Ise Expressway, or about 10 minutes from Tsu IC on the Ise Expressway. Inside, you can see exhibits such as a full-body reconstructed skeleton of a giant "Mie elephant" and large dinosaur fossils including Tobaryu. The exhibits mainly focus on Mie’s distinctive natural environment. What’s especially surprising is that despite the spacious facility, general admission is not free. For families with children—especially kids who love dinosaur fossils—it’s a place where you can easily spend the whole day enjoying hands-on learning and discovery. There is also a small shop with museum goods unique to a Mie museum.
