Kochi Journey Square
Kochi Tabi Hiroba is a plaza in front of JR Kochi Station. It includes the Kochi Tourist Information Center Tosaterasu, the “Ryomaden” pavilion Bakumatsu Shishi Shachu, and the Three Patriot Statues (Takechi Hanpeita, Sakamoto Ryoma, and Nakaoka Shintaro). A panel reading “Ryoma and Yosakoi, Sunday Market Station” immediately helps you feel you’ve arrived in Kochi. At Tosaterasu, you can learn about Kochi sightseeing and receive travel help; it also supports foreign languages, making it friendly for international visitors. They can also tell you about rare or lesser-known local sightseeing information. The pavilion features a highly complete set of Ryoma’s birthplace home, making you feel as if you’ve time-slipped into the Bakumatsu era. The Three Patriot Statues area is busy every day with tourists taking photos. With so many highlights, Kochi Tabi Hiroba serves as Kochi’s “gateway,” located right beside JR Kochi Station, so many people stop to look around. There is also a souvenir area with Kochi specialties. Access is immediate—right after exiting JR Kochi Station.
