Kochi City Ryoma's Birthplace Memorial Hall
Kochi City Ryoma’s Birthplace Memorial Museum is a museum in Kochi City dedicated to Sakamoto Ryoma. It presents Ryoma’s life and family, the history of Kamimachi in Kochi where he was born, and the people around him who shaped his character, using dioramas and videos. You can also enjoy Ryoma’s famous quotes and interesting episodes from his boyhood and youth up to the time he left Tosa Domain. The facility is divided into an East and West wing, and the West wing includes a community interaction center. In the “Ryoma, Sono Toki” experience, you can see Ryoma’s growth recreated in CG and experience it firsthand. Volunteer guides are available for free until 4 p.m. There are also nine “Ryoma’s Birthplace Town Walk – Tosappo” courses (reservation and fee required), where guides take you by tram to related sites such as Kochi Castle while explaining Ryoma-connected places. Access is a 5-minute walk after getting off at “Kamimachi 1-chome” tram stop.
