Kashihara Shrine
Kashihara Shrine stands on land described in the "Nihon Shoki" as the birthplace of Japan. It was here, at the foot of Mount Unebi, that Emperor Jimmu, the first emperor of Japan, is said to have founded the Kashihara Palace after unifying the country. To honor his legacy, Kashihara Shrine was established in the Meiji period. Emperor Jimmu is enshrined here, and the Jimmu Festival is held every April to commemorate his passing. The shrine grounds cover approximately 50,000 square meters and offer seasonal scenery, including cherry blossoms in spring, irises in summer, autumn foliage, and camellias in winter. The shrine is also popular as a venue for Shinto wedding ceremonies. Protective amulets for household safety, business prosperity, traffic safety, good fortune, and protection from misfortune are available at the shrine office. From Kintetsu Kashihara-Jingu-mae Station, it is about a 10-minute walk to the first torii gate. Visitors proceed along the straight approach to the second torii, purification area, outer worship hall, and main sanctuary. Parking near the first torii can accommodate about 800 vehicles.
