Kochi Prefectural Ichi Zoological Park
Kochi Prefectural Noichi Zoological Park is a zoo in Konan City, Kochi Prefecture. Its theme is “Both people and animals lively,” and animals live close enough that they feel within reach. The park covers 19.9 hectares and houses 106 species and about 1,500 animals that move freely. The most popular animal is the shoebill. A full-scale tropical rainforest environment is recreated in an indoor facility; during “squall time,” about one ton of rain is poured in a short time. You can even observe animals being rained on. With this immersive rainforest setting, it’s enjoyable for both adults and children. The zoo also includes a park area and lawn plaza, and there is a restaurant, making it possible to enjoy the place all day. Events unique to Noichi Zoo are held from time to time. Because you can get so close, visitors say you can see animals’ natural behavior more clearly. Access is a 20-minute walk from Noichi Station on the Tosa Kuroshio Railway; during Golden Week, a free shuttle bus runs from the station.
